Ionic Stoa in Miletus — Raki_Man

Introduction

Herodotus tells us a few things about what Gyges and one of his descendants did during their respective reign; and it turns out that Gyges’ appears to have been rather uneventful.

As he ruled, he sent his army into Miletus and Smyrna and caputed the city of Colophon. As not many other great deeds happened through him during his 38 year long reign, we will turn our attention, instead, to those things Arduos of Gyges — who ruled after Gyges — did. He captured Priene and invaded Miletus and during his being king of Sardis, the Cimmmerians were forced to leave their home by the Scythian nomads who went into Asia and caputured all of Sardis, except the Akropolis.
